Roses to the Rescue: Cooling Medicine
Sep 04, 2024If your body temp is up, or if your baby is suffering from diaper rash… or you just can’t stop sweating… a Rose Body Powder might be the best relief yet.
Roses are calming any way we use them: as a tea, a syrup, or simply inhaling the lovely scent fresh from the plant. Another way to use their wonderful essence and ability to calm and cool is to grind dried petals into powder.
If you have access to roses, you can dry them and grind them in a coffee grinder. Otherwise, find rose powder at a health food store. Also get some arrowroot powder, often found in grocery stores, and/or white kaolin clay or powder.
Gentle Rose Body or Baby Powder Recipe
Use this soft and fragrant powder on your baby (keep out of the eyes) or on yourself to cool and calm the temperature.
Step 1: In a small bowl, combine the powders:
½ cup arrowroot
½ cup kaolin
¼ cup rose powder
Step 2: To this blend, add 1 to 3 drops rose essential oil if desired. Stir gently with a spoon or whisk, being careful not to make the powder airborne. Store in a dry container in a cupboard.
Your young children can also help with this process by scooping, measuring, and carefully stirring the powders together, and then pouring them through a funnel into a container. They can also color the label and even sprinkle it on your pregnant belly or on their own skin. It smells heavenly! Just keep it out of the eyes.
Recipe is adapted from my book Llewellyn's Little Book of Herbs.
